HCA Florida Bayonet Point Hospital

About Us

Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point has a long and illustrious history of providing the highest level of critical care for our community. Founded in 1981, it was the first hospital to be built in northwest Pasco County serving residents in Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus Counties. Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point has more than 350 physicians, 1,264 employees and 500 volunteers on our integrated healthcare delivery team.

RMCBP was the first hospital to offer the area a comprehensive open heart program. This program has grown in both scope and concentration of service. Today the medical staff of the Heart Institute of Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point includes over 30 cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, and electrophysiologists.

Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point’s reputation for providing compassionate and innovative care to those in need has resulted in the Florida Department of Health awarding our hospital full Level II Trauma Center designation. Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point is the only trauma center in Pasco, Hernando and Citrus Counties. The development of a trauma center was a natural step in the evolution of Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point and is a very proud milestone for the hospital. It is part of the HCA Florida and USF health agreements for trauma care, which supports local needs for trauma services through an affiliation with a major academic university and medical school.

Our medical staff is among the finest in the state. Many of our physicians enjoy excellent reputations as being the most experienced practitioners in their field and now we have been approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) for an internal medicine residency program. This is the hospital’s first step in developing Graduate Medical Education (GME) residency programs and a logical progression as RMCBP continues to expand its tertiary and specialty programs. In July of this year six first year residents and one second year resident joined our program. Internal medicine residency programs are three year programs, so approximately six residents will join the hospital’s medical staff each year until there is a full complement of 18 residents over three years. That means that 18 physicians will be living in 18 more homes and they and their families will be shopping in our community.

Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point has been certified as a Certified Advanced Primary Stroke Center by The Joint Commission. The MRI, CT, ultrasound and nuclear medicine services have been accredited by the American College of Radiology. This hospital has 10 Joint Commission disease specific certifications: Primary Stroke Center, Acute Myocardial Infarction, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Coronary Artery Bypass, Graft, Heart Failure, Joint Replacement Hip, Joint Replacement Knee, Lung Cancer, Pneumonia, and Wound Care. In addition, and most important: Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point was awarded the Hospital Safety Score of “A” in four consecutive rankings by the LeapFrog Group.
