Event Description:
Speaker: Craig A. Laporte

Topic: Pasco County Fallen Law Enforcement Officers Memorial & Benefit Foundation, Inc.

Craig Laporte is a civil trial practice attorney since graduating from Stetson University College of Law in 1983. He is the managing partner of Laporte, Mulligan & Werner-Watkins in Port Richey specializing in personal injury and wrongful death cases.

Because of his background, Craig and his wife, Arndrea, founded the Pasco County Law Enforcement Family FunDay in 2014 which provides law enforcement families in the greater Tampa Bay area with an opportunity to meet each other in a carnival like atmosphere designed to provide a good time for their entire families. In 2019 over 750 law enforcement families participated in this free event.
On a more serious note, he is also a Board member of the Pasco County Fallen Law Enforcement Officer Memorial & Benefit Foundation, whose goal is to see to the construction of a permanent memorial to Pasco’s fallen officers and to provide immediate financial relief to the families of a fallen or injured law enforcement officer.

In 2014 officers and members of the Pasco County Fraternal Order of Police realized the need for a permanent memorial to honor its fallen law enforcement officers and for a benefit foundation capable of providing immediate financial assistance to the family of fallen or seriously injured law enforcement officers. Initially, the thought was to construct the memorial on the grounds of the FOP Lodge in Land O' Lakes, but that concept subsequently changed.
The Pasco County Fallen Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Benefit Foundation, Inc. was established officially in June 2014 as a not for profit charity certified by the IRS as a 501 (c)(3) organization.
In combination with LEO Funday, Inc. another charitable corporation founded by Craig & Arndrea Laporte, the Fallen LEO Memorial charity has so far raised approximately $220,000 of the $300,000 needed to start construction of the memorial.
In the interim, the Pasco County Commission dedicated the northwest corner of its property in front of the Historic Pasco County Courthouse in Dade City to the Memorial and Benefit Foundation for construction of the proposed memorial.
The goal is to break ground on the memorial sometime in 2020, and have it fully constructed before the May 2021 National Law Enforcement Week at which time the statue and memorial will serve as the background for Pasco County's annual memorial ceremony.
